Something Old
/The Other Mother has organized a blogging carnival once again for Freedom to Marry Week. The theme is the same as last year which means people will be blogging on Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue. I participated last year and thought it was fun, fun and more fun. So, let's get to the topic at hand, shall we?
My sister is a girly girl and I am not but she has tried, at various points in her life, to show me the joy of girliness. There were makeovers and hot rollers and the Little Miss Sun 'n' Surf competition which is captured in the picture above. I can't remember the exact date this photo was taken but I believe that I was five years old which would make the year roughly 1973 and that would mean that my sister was 19. I have the world's best older sister, swimsuit competition aside, and she loved doing things with me. It's no surprise, then, that she would think it fabulous for us each to be crowned Miss Sun 'n' Surf in our respective age groups. Sadly, it was not to be. Neither of us won. My sister blames my loss on the black sandals that my mother insisted I wear. I blame it on the fact that I look a little bit more like Miss Shade 'n' Repose than Miss Sun 'n' Surf. It's all good though...I was spared the embarrassment of having my picture taken wearing a tiara.
