Begin Again

Rainbows and waterfalls

Rainbows and waterfalls

Truth #1: I have no idea why I continue to blog. The blogging landscape has changed dramatically in recent years and is virtually unrecognizable. We are facing crises of humanity every single day and I know I’m not alone in worrying about the future. So, does blogging even matter anymore?

I don’t know but I’m still here.

Truth #2: I cannot write about all the horror in the world on a regular basis. It’s not sustainable for me, nor is it a productive use of my time in terms of lasting social change. So, how do we go on telling stories and celebrating the small joys in life when there is so much darkness? Additionally, how do we do that without being accused of ignoring the current state of affairs?

I don’t know but I’m going to try and I’m going to take the risk.

So, as with so many things in life, we simply have to take a deep breath and begin again.

It’s November and I’ll be writing every day - my 13th year doing this. If you’re a blogger and you’re writing every day this month, let me know in the comments. If you’re a reader, let me know you’re here and tell me what you’ve read lately that you love.

Maybe blogs can challenge us to think more deeply. Maybe they can foster connection. Maybe they can serve as a refuge.

So, deep breaths - let’s write and read.
