Newsflash: Peep Week 2011 Approaches

Last night, our conversation over dinner turned to Peeps as it often does this time of year and Zeca had shocking news to report: No one at school celebrates Peep Week! Worse yet, no one had even heard of it!

She stared at us, mouth agape, and waited for the weight of this revelation to hit us. I feigned shock. Miguel tilted his head and stared at her in disbelief and Luisa said, "Well honey, that's because Mama made the whole thing up."

But does it really matter that I made up Peep Week? Does that fact make Peep Week any less real, any less special?

I say that it does not!

So, it is with great pleasure that I announce that Peep Week 2011 will begin on 4/18/11 and run through 4/24/11.  I designed 6 different Peep Week logos, each with a unique tagline and you know what else? You can purchase stickers and magnets with the various designs right here. Why did I make merch? Because we have to spread the word so that everyone can know the joy of Peep Week. Consider it your civic duty.

But wait! There's more!

A Peep Week 2011 contest!

This is your mission should you choose to accept it:

Create a unique recipe which includes Peeps as an essential ingredient. The peeps can be cooked, melted, frozen, stale, raw, grated or chopped - anything goes.  It can be an entree, dessert, beverage or side dish. Did I mention that anything goes! The only requirements are that the recipe include Peeps and that you came up with the idea yourself. Once you have your recipe...make it...taste it...photograph it. Send the pictures to me with comments regarding your taste test and I will assemble a panel of judges to pick a winner based on creativity and presentation (not necessarily taste).

The deadline for submissions is 4/13/11.

That gives you two weeks so get busy! I know what you're thinking. You're thinking: 1) Is Vikki crazy? or 2) Why would I ever participate in a stupid contest like this? or 3) Do I have spinach in my teeth? I have the answers: 1) Yes and 2) Prizes and 3) No, your teeth are sparkling clean.

I don't know what the prizes will be yet because I haven't given it much thought. I've been busy photographing and photoshopping peeps and chocolate bunnies all day. But, there will be prizes...not life-changing prizes but prizes nonetheless.

At this point, my attorney would likely advise me that the contest instructions are rather vague and that the judging is likely to be subjective which could open this blog up to lawsuits or, at the very least, controversy and snippy comments. I would likely tell my attorney (if she would return my e-mails) that we should all learn to live with uncertainty.

Now go forth and cook with Peeps and spread the word of Peep Week!

*Special thanks to Leigh for the inspiration for this year's logo and to Danja for the contest idea!
